Biography

Dr. Pepper McCoy's academic background encompasses psychology, counseling, and community-based participatory research, as well as full-time faculty and adjunct social work teaching experiences. She received a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, MSW at the University of Houston and a BSW from Louisiana State University where she played collegiate women’s basketball. Primary research interest is focused on health disparities, posttraumatic stress and the psychopathology of trauma and resilience. As well as have taught a broad range of campus-based and online social work courses since 2014.  Dr McCoy is also engaged in Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) Population Based Behavioral Mental Health, Wellness, and Recovery. Including micro, mezzo, and macro holistic, efficacious, alternative, and concordant interventional healing strategies and techniques. As a consummate social work professional, educator, patient medical advocate. activist, and writer, she has incorporated elements of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, intersectionality, etc. into the directorship of a 501c community betterment non-profit, social work practice, and teaching to best meet diverse perspectives and abilities outside and inside the classroom. Including ongoing community service and activism endeavors geared towards improving the financial, emotional, psychological, and spiritual, wellness of marginalized and disenfranchised communities, families, and individuals. Hobbies include mindfulness meditation, yoga, biking, fitness and water enthusiast, avid sports fan, and a voracious reader.
