Biography

Dr. Mark Lusk

Mark Lusk is coordinator of the MSW program in the School of Social Work. A graduate of New Mexico State University, professor Lusk earned his master's and doctorate at the University of Kentucky. He worked as a medical social worker in a psychiatric hospital, a regional medical center and a hospice. His scholarship has focused on street children, forced migrants, refugees, trauma, resilience and human rights. 

Dr. Lusk has been awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship twice – first at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima and the second at Pontificia Universidade do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. 

Professor Lusk has worked in over 60 countries on development projects sponsored by the US State Department, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, InterAmerican Development Bank, and the US Agency for International Development. His international development work has taken him to Central Asia, South Asia, Latin America, North Africa, East Africa, South Africa & Namibia, the Caribbean and Guyana. His international education work has focused primarily on South America, Central America, and Mexico. An experienced field worker, Mark is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

In 2023, Mark was selected by the National Association of Social Workers as an NASW Social Work Pioneer in recognition of his decades of service to the profession. The Pioneer Program identifies and recognizes individuals whose unique dedication, commitment, and determination have improved social and human conditions.
