The Licensing Preparation Program, funded by the Child Welfare Scholar Program is open to all social workers preparing for the BSW, MSW, or LCSW examinations. It is designed to help participants understand exam dynamics, create and effectively use strategies to select the most appropriate choice, and ultimately increase their success with the exam. Seminars will assist participants in understanding and aggressively using time-proven multiple-choice exam-taking strategies, tactics, and techniques. Content to be reviewed during exam preparation is provided, organized, and presented in a manner that increases participants’ success with the exam. With the ultimate goal of preparing participants to successfully pass the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Examination.
Program Overview
2-Day Seminars
During our 2-Day Licensing Exam Preparation Seminars, participants will be taught multiple choice exam-taking strategies, tactics, and techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a practice exam created to resemble those found on the national exam structurally. Instructors will help participants understand the exam dynamics and demonstrate how to effectively use strategies for selecting and using the information provided within each exam item to choose the most appropriate choice to increase their success with the exam. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a practice exam containing items created to resemble those found on the national exam structurally. Our instructors will analyze the results of this exam to make individualized content assessments for each participant. During the Dissemination of Content Assessment Results Sessions, instructors will review critical areas needing review and provide participants with individualized content assessments.
The seminar will help participants to:
- Appreciate how the multiple-choice items help to increase success with the exam.
- Select/use the best exam-taking strategies to increase success with the exam.
- Use the information embedded in the exam to select the “BEST” option.
- Aggressively plan the exam preparation experience.
- Become aware of strengths and weaknesses regarding exam-taking skills.
- Effectively manage negative emotions and thoughts regarding the exam.
- Use exam content to increase success with the exam.
- Work with practice exams that resemble the actual exam.
- Experience and use exam-taking skills that encourage exam-taking confidence.
Materials and services provided to seminar participants include:
- Seminar manual.
- Set of practice exams that resemble the National Social Work exam.
- Self-assessments that help participants identify content in need of review.
- Set of readings, practice exams, and articles supplementing participants’ content.
- Exam-taking strategies have proven to be successful in the exam.
- Workbooks/exercises to assist participants break-down multiple-choice items.

At this time, we are planning to conduct our 2-Day seminars via ZOOM.
The fee for our 2-Day seminars is $75 for students and $100 for non-students.
Child Welfare Scholars are expected to attend at no cost and have priority.
Registration for all others is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 25 participants per seminar.
*The fees for this current academic year (August 2022-June 2023) will be waived for all participants.
1-Day Boosters
During our 1-Day Booster Sessions, instructors will review the exam-taking process to help participants reinforce their understanding of the exam and application of exam strategies. They will also provide opportunities to develop items as they prepare for the professional licensure exam. During booster sessions, participants can set up individualized meetings with the facilitators to review their specific questions and concerns and provide additional exam practice items to complete their study and preparation process for the exam.
1-Day Booster Dates and Times

The fee for our 1-Day boosters are $25 for students and $50 for non-students.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 25 participants per seminar.
