Student Peer Support

Collaboration to support student success—by students, for students.

Mission

The School of Social Work's Student Peer Support Program empowers student social workers to achieve positive academic outcomes. We respond to students' needs, build community within cohorts, and promote unity and diversity among peers. Our collaborative environment, led by experienced students, provides support and guidance for academic success through the educational journey. Together, we cultivate a community that values growth, learning, and mutual encouragement.

Vision

Our vision is to build a collaborative network of students and interdisciplinary professionals in the field of social work and the College of HEST that, together, develop and aid students in their professional development guided by the fundamental values of Social Work.

Who is it for?

The Student Peer Support Program serves BSW, MSW, and Pre-Social Work students at NMSU Global and Las Cruces. New, returning, online, evening, and working students are welcome.

How Social Work Student Peer Support Can Help

We support social work students through emotional, academic, professional, and community-based support.

Emotional Support: We provide a safe space to talk through concerns, process challenges, and build healthy coping strategies. You are not alone.
Academic Support: Peer mentors share strategies for success in social work courses, including study skills, time management, and navigating program expectations.
Professional Development: We support resume building, applications, interviews, career planning, and networking opportunities.
Community Building: We foster connection through peer relationships, social events, and collaborative learning spaces.
