Graduate Assistant Information

Graduate Assistantships provide opportunities for students to gain experience in teaching, research, or administrative roles while supporting the work of NMSU departments, research centers, and service units. To be eligible, students must be admitted to the Graduate School and enrolled in a graduate program, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and complete at least 9 graduate credit hours during the academic semester. Eligible Graduate Assistants appointed at a minimum of 0.25 FTE will receive full-time tuition coverage for up to 9 credits during the academic semesters.

    Applications are open January and February of each year for the following academic year.

    Access the Application

    Current and newly admitted students will receive the application link by email in February or March, or use the button below to apply.

    Prepare Your Materials

    You will be asked to upload your CV/resume as part of the application.

2026 Key Dates:

  • March 25: Submit your completed application
  • End of April: Selected GAs and PC Fellows are notified
  • May 15: Social Work Director matches selected GAs to faculty based on background and skills
  • June 1: Award letters are sent to selected students and faculty members are notified of their assigned GA
