Bachelor's Student Social Work Association

About BSSWA

BSSWA is a service-based student organization dedicated to building a strong sense of community, both within the university and with the populations we aim to serve as future social workers. We help students connect academically, professionally, and personally by offering opportunities to grow in alignment with the core values of the social work profession.

Mission Statement

  1. To support and uphold the National Association of Social Workers' values and Code of Ethics
  2. To assist students in building a professional identity as social workers
  3. To provide academic, emotional, and social support to students
  4. To facilitate student participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences related to community and social services
  5. To encourage meaningful engagement among students, faculty, staff, and community agencies
  6. To develop and sponsor campus and community-oriented fundraising activities
  7. To create and implement recruitment strategies for new members

Why Join BSSWA?

BSSWA offers students a unique opportunity to become actively involved in community service while building relationships with peers, faculty, and professionals in the field. It’s a place to learn, grow, and begin developing a social work identity grounded in service and ethical practice.

We volunteer regularly in the community. For example, past members have spent time at El Caldito Soup Kitchen, a Community of Hope agency serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and hosted hygiene drives . We also participate in various campus and community outreach initiatives.

Whether you're looking to make a difference or simply want to connect with fellow students who share your passion for social work, BSSWA is here to support your journey.
