Master of Social Work

The specialization in the Master of Social Work Program at New Mexico State University is advanced generalist social work practice with populations of the Southwest.

Building on the liberal arts’ perspective and foundation courses, students develop advanced skills and knowledge in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.

These advanced skills and knowledge incorporate cultural responsiveness to the needs of populations of the Southwest, and addresses client systems in the context of social, cultural, community, and other environmental factors.

Programs

The School of Social Work currently offers both a regular and advanced standing degree programs leading to a MSW degree. These programs are offered on both a full-time and on a part-time basis and are available at both our Las Cruces and Albuquerque campuses.

The Albuquerque MSW Program is current housed at NMSU’s Albuquerque Center. Courses at NMSU’s Albuquerque Center follow the same schedule as courses on the Las Cruces Campus. For more information about our Albuquerque location please visit the Center’s site or talk to the program coordinator.

Advanced Standing is offered only to graduates of CSWE accredited BSW programs in the past seven years who meet specific admissions criteria. Advanced standing students can complete their MSW degree by taking 36 credit hours [over approximately 15 months]. Advanced standing students begin in Summer Session II.
